Salinity and hardpanning are two of the biggest problems facing farmers
today. This is particularly so in irrigation
areas
which are generally regarded as being the food bowls of many countries.
Ineffective water management and outdated conventional farming practices
have resulted in high levels of groundwater, high levels of salt and
sub-surface hardpanning. All of this results in lower production levels
and a decrease in the sustainability and viability of farms.
